The Level 2 Diploma For The Early Years Practitioner is ideal for learners looking to work with children from birth to 5 years. No previous experience of working with children is required to undertake the qualification.
As a Level 2 Early Years Practitioner, you’ll play a vital role in supporting the social and physical development of children ages 0-5, using imaginative learning techniques, encouraging language and literacy skills, and promoting independence along with the way. You will also gain knowledge of working with children up to 7 years.
If you’re interested in a fulfilling and challenging career in childcare, this course is a great starting point. It is a roll on roll off programme so you can start at anytime. The training will take place in your work setting and sessions can be carried out online.

The Details
Duration: 12 months with an additional 3 months to complete the End Point Assessment (EPA).
Cost: The apprenticeship is set at £4000 with a £200 + VAT employer contribution.
Employers employing an Apprentice aged 16-21 years old and employ less than 50 employees will receive full government funding and be exempt from paying the employer contribution. Employers employing an Apprentice aged 16-18 years old will receive a £1,000 government incentive.
Classroom Delivery: One to one in the workplace and online sessions can be carried out.
On Programme Delivery
Functional Skills: Both maths and English are required at Level 1 or relevant GSCE results.
Qualification: Level 2 Diploma for the Early Years Practitioner.
Assessment in the Workplace
Your designated Assessor/Trainer will visit you in the workplace to support the development of your on-programme portfolio and to complete your quarterly reviews. Training can be carried out within the workplace setting and online.

Entry Requirements
- No previous qualifications or experience is required.
- Have a confirmed placement in an early years/preschool setting or reception class for duration of the whole course.
- Be aged 16 years or above.
- To have the appropriate of level of literacy and numeracy.
- Have access to a PC and the internet for the duration of the whole course.
- To have regular access to a computer.
- Have a genuine desire to succeed.
End Point Assessment (EPA)
- PA assessment is an Observation of Practice and a Professional Discussion.
Grading
- Grading is an overall pass, must pass both elements in EPA and a distinction is 21/27 of the distinction points in the professional discussion.
