Green Skills Bootcamp – Government Funded

The Green Skills Bootcamp offers a fantastic opportunity for practising electricians looking to upskill in the growing renewable energy sector. Delivered at a highly competitive price, this intensive 10-week programme (one day each week over a 10 week period) includes three essential courses designed to expand your expertise and career opportunities.

Course Structure

Participants will complete the following three courses:

  • EAL Level 3 Award in the Installation of Small Scale Solar Photovoltaic Systems
  • EAL Level 3 Award in the Requirements for the Installation of Electric Vehicle Charging Points
  • EAL Level 3, Design, Install & Commission Electrical Energy Storage Systems

Please note that enrolment in this bootcamp requires full participation in all three courses. Partial enrolment is not available.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for the Green Skills Bootcamp, candidates must:

  • Be a practising electrician
  • Be aged 19 or older
  • Not have participated in a bootcamp earlier this year

Completion Requirements

Upon finishing the course, candidates must provide evidence of increased responsibilities. This can be demonstrated through:

  • A new job description or a letter from an employer outlining additional duties (for employed candidates)
  • Evidence of how new skills will be used, such as job plans or quotes (for self-employed candidates)

Employers are also required to complete a short feedback form, coaching and mentoring their employee based on their learning experience.

Cost & Employer Contributions

The Green Skills Bootcamp is offered at a significantly subsidised rate:

  • Small & Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) (fewer than 250 staff): 10% contribution, approximately £269 + VAT
  • Large Employers (250+ employees): 30% contribution, approximately £807 + VAT

Course Dates (Exeter)

  • EV Charging Installation: 1st & 8th May 2025
  • Solar PV Installation: 15th, 22nd, 29th May, 5th, 12th June 2025
  • Electrical Energy Storage Systems (EESS): 19th, 26th June, 3rd July 2025

Additional Requirements

This programme is designed for practising electricians looking to expand into renewable energy. Candidates must:

  • Have a solid understanding of the latest edition of BS7671
  • Be proficient in inspection, testing, and certification of electrical installations
  • Sign a statement of competence prior to enrolment
  • Provide evidence of being 19 years or older
