Experienced Worker Assessment Overview
If you need to get your skills and experience recognised to the industry Level 3 benchmark, the Electrotechnical Experienced Worker Assessment can help.
The Experience Worker Assessment is the new assessment process to recognise occupational competence for people who have been working as an electrician for typically over five years but haven’t been able to complete an apprenticeship or achieve an equivalent Level 3 vocational qualification.
It replaces the JIB Mature Candidate Assessment and provides an improved, standardised and transparent process for experienced workers to accredit their skills.
The Standards It Meets
It’s based on the same content as the electrotechnical apprenticeship, so that both new entrants and existing workers are now being assessed and accredited against the same industry standard.
Achievement of the Experienced Worker Assessment and the AM2E meets the criteria for an ECS gold card application.
The Experienced Worker Assessment is also recognised in the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification as equivalent to an industry apprenticeship.
To be Eligible
The Installation/Maintenance Electrician Experienced Worker Assessment (EWA) is the process designed to recognise occupational competence for people who have been working as an Installation or Maintenance Electrician for more than five years, but haven’t completed an apprenticeship or an equivalent, recognised Level 3 vocational qualification, it is not a short cut to qualified status.
Importantly, successful completion of this EWA and its End Point Assessment the AM2E meets the criteria for an ECS gold card application. It’s also recognised in the Electrotechnical Assessment Specification as equivalent to an industry apprenticeship.
To ensure eligibility, candidates must complete a skill scan, and must hold a Level 3 Inspection, Testing and Certification qualification and a qualification for the current BS7671 Wiring Regulations. In addition, from the 4th of September 2023, the Installation/Maintenance Electrician EWA will include a mandatory minimum Level 2 qualification entry requirement.
Candidates who do not already hold these qualifications can undertake these at one of our training centres.
A primary benefit of the EWA is that candidates existing qualifications, skills and experience can count towards the Experienced Worker qualification.
The EWA was developed by an industry group comprising JIB, NET, Unite, Certsure, ECS, NAPIT, City and Guilds, EAL and the IET.
Performance Units – evidence
For the Performance Units, all aspects of assessment and evidence for completion of onsite units must come after registration on the qualification. So you must be working in the industry currently in order to meet this requirement. Work completed prior to registration is not admissible as evidence, even if it is authenticated.
What do I have to do?
The main benefit of the EWA is that your existing qualifications, skills and experience can count towards the Experienced Worker qualification criteria, so you’ll only need to fill in any gaps.
To complete the whole assessment, you’ll need to gain the Experienced Worker Qualification, and also take the AM2E Assessment, which mirrors the AM2S assessment taken by apprentices at the end of their training.
If you’ve already completed some elements, for instance if you already hold the BS 7671 and Initial Verification qualifications, you won’t need to repeat these, making for a shorter overall assessment process.
How much will it cost?
£2,086 + VAT and they will also have to pay in addition the AM2E
